The Ogden Public Works Department provides water and also encourages water conservation. While designing their new office building, they wanted to showcase creative ways to landscape while using less water. MGB+A was hired with Salerno as part of the design team. Working collaboratively, an integrated design between building and landscape was created. The design revolves around radiating beams centered on the corner of the site, that continues through the planters, parking, and up the building facades. The fountain at the center of the design was added midway through the construction process to match the design in process, thanks to Ogden’s 1% for The Arts program. Colored concrete, contrasting masonry and bands of plant species carry out the theme. Elements refl ecting the public work’s mission, including concrete culverts and water pipes, were integrated into the architecture and landscape. To help conserve water, separate sprinkler systems were used in the turf areas and drought-tolerant planted areas.
