MGB+A was asked by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to redesign the front plaza of the Provo Temple to boost its appeal and usability for visitors. The client had a vision to make the area in front of the temple a chosen photo spot for weddings and other special occasions. In studying the site, MGB+A recommended relocating the automobile drop-off to the side of the plaza rather than up against the building to create a continuous plaza connecting the temple to the grounds. The remodeled project includes a new reflecting/fountain, water walls, plaza spaces, updated landscaping and a wonderful connection between the temple and the grounds. MGB+A created 3-D models and photo-realistic simulations to give the client a better impression of the final result and shape the final design. MGB+A worked with the LDS Church Architects, the Temple Presidency, and Allstate Construction, a design-build contractor, to meet all of the design requirements and stay within the established budget. The plaza will be completed in the Spring of 2006.
