MGB+A was employed to create a garden as an oasis for visitors, a setting for several full-scale dinosaur models and an extension of the interior interpretive exhibits. Three separate gardens were shaped to reflect different pre-historic landscapes —desert, lush, shady. A waterfall and plentiful seating carved of sandstone greet people as they transition between the museum and the garden and prepare for tours. The design was also driven by maintenance and water conservation concerns, heavily employing xeriscape techniques.
